Winters are a fantastic time to experiment with hairstyles, but they also come with their own set of challenges for hair care. Cold weather often brings dryness and dandruff, which can affect the hair texture and appearance. This is where a proper hair care routine becomes essential. When it comes to styling for outdoor events, it’s all about balancing aesthetics and practicality.
Hairstyles like loose waves, a sleek ponytail, or an elegant low bun not only look chic but also protect your hair from the cold. Top hair stylists often recommend using lightweight, nourishing styling products to lock in moisture while adding a polished finish to your look. Says Santosh Kumar, Business Head at the Sinh Salon, “Keeping the scalp clean and hair healthy doesn’t require daily washing, especially given the demands of a busy lifestyle. Overwashing can strip the hair from its natural oils, so it’s essential to find the right balance. Dry shampoos are an excellent option for soaking up excess oil and keeping the scalp feeling fresh between washes. For a more thorough approach, a monthly salon spa treatment is a game-changer, particularly in winter. The treatments are tailored to combat common winter hair concerns like dryness and dandruff, providing intense hydration and nourishment for both the scalp and hair. These professional solutions deeply moisturise and leave your hair looking and feeling its best, no matter the season. Regular care at a salon ensures you maintain healthy hair while juggling a packed schedule.”

- Hair care essentials:
Start with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner to provide the nourishment your hair craves. Incorporating a weekly deep-conditioning mask can also work wonders to replenish lost moisture. Get professional treatments designed to target winter-specific concerns like dryness or flaky scalp, recommends Santosh. He adds, “Hydration therapies, for instance, not only deeply moisturise but also prep your hair for easy styling. Repair treatments are equally beneficial, addressing any damage while ensuring your hair stays soft, shiny, and manageable. The season’s hairstyle trends are all about embracing natural textures and keeping things easy to maintain without compromising on style.”
For men, textured cuts are taking the spotlight. The modern quiff is making waves for its stylish yet relaxed vibe, while the classic fade with a sleek finish remains a go-to for its versatility. These styles are great for any occasion, whether it’s a casual outing or a formal event. Plus, they’re low-maintenance and easy to manage with a bit of styling cream or pomade.
For women, soft layers and curtain bangs are making a strong comeback. These styles are incredibly flattering and work beautifully with various hair textures. Curtain bangs, in particular, frame the face perfectly and require minimal upkeep, making them a favorite for clients who want a chic yet effortless look. Soft layers, on the other hand, add movement and dimension to the hair, enhancing its natural beauty.

- For a good hair day:
Invest in products enriched with natural oils like argan or jojoba oil. These provide deep hydration and help combat dryness caused by the cold weather and indoor heating. A leave-in product with moisturizing properties can protect your hair throughout the day, keeping it soft and shiny. Washing your hair too frequently can strip away natural oils. Limit washes to 2–3 times a week and opt for lukewarm water instead of hot, says Santosh.
“Weekly deep-conditioning masks can repair damage, replenish moisture, and add a healthy shine. Masks with ingredients like shea butter or keratin are particularly effective. If you use heat styling tools, invest in a thermal protectant spray to shield your hair from heat damage while locking in moisture. Professional hydration or repair therapies can address seasonal issues like dryness or split ends and keep your hair in top condition. Use a silk or satin-lined hat or scarf when outdoors to prevent breakage and maintain moisture. Winter can make hair prone to split ends. A regular trim every 6–8 weeks helps keep your hair healthy. Drink plenty of water and incorporate healthy fats like avocados and nuts into your diet for optimal hair health,” he says.
